It was a hot day at Darling Harbour for the City of Sydney Lunar New Year Dragon Boat Racing. We had 43 Bei Loon competitors - including 8 new members. We had so many new competitors, that we ran out of racing cap stock and needed to ask some of our senior members for a loan of the cap for the presentation on race day! It takes courage to set out and compete in something new and we are proud of them all for giving it a go and discovering that dragon boat racing is Fast and Furious. Particularly the 200m (or thereabouts) at Darling Harbour and a nail biting ''Stop the Boat'' so that we don't crash into Cockle Bay Wharf.
There were over 4,000 people competing in the weekend of racing. Bei Loon competed with 6 teams on Saturday and our Pinks competed on Sunday. We had a Senior B (over 50) Mixed Team and two Senior A (over 40) Mixed teams. The Senior A Women were in a very tough classification - there were 24 teams competing. They came third in their first heat and fourth in their last heat but unfortunately missed out on the final. And two Silver Medal winning teams - Senior C (over 60) Open team and Senior A Open joint team with Pittwater.
